The mission of the Mount Snow Academy snowboard program is to develop the students’ mental strength and abilities in order to create well-rounded athletes. We prepare our athletes for all levels of snowboard competition including the USASA Nationals, Revolution Tour, Grand Prix, X-Games, World Cup, and even the Olympics.

Rigorous on-hill preparation, supported by extensive dry land training, allows our athletes to reach their full potential in their snowboard careers. Mount Snow offers renowned facilities with their world class Super-Pipe and multiple terrain parks.

Snowboard Coaches

Tommy Burke, Snowboard Program Director

Tommy started coaching/instructing snowboarding at Mount Snow in 2002. He worked with all levels of riders from instructing first timers to coaching athletes through their Slopestyle runs at the US Open. He has been a coach for the weekend programs at Mount Snow and also has experience as a private coach. In addition, Tommy helped build elite programs and has overseen multiple programs as head snowboard coach of Sierra at Tahoe. Tommy joined Mount Snow Academy as a snowboard coach in 2014. He currently holds the following accreditations: Level II AASI certification, Level 300 USASA coach, and Level A judge. Tommy is also a Coach Clinician for USASA. Over the course of numerous summers, he was a skateboarding instructor at Woodward PA. In 2018 Tommy got certified as a Yoga Teacher in Bali. There are many aspects of yoga that are helpful for developing athletes and they are utilized throughout the snowboard program. Tommy is also passionate about nutrition; he has a degree as a nutritionist and he often works at organic farms in the summertime. In the summer when he is not on an organic farm, you will find Tommy out surfing around the globe.

David McCarthy, Head Snowboard Coach

David is an alum of Mount Snow Academy, and also a coach at High Cascade Snowboard Camp on Mount Hood in Oregon. David has competed in USSA Rev Tours and achieved multiple podiums from USASA National Championships with the Academy team. He is joining us for his second season while finishing up his degree at Empire State College. David is a level 100 certified USASA coach and joining the academy this season as the interim head coach. Along with snowboarding, David played college lacrosse and paintball for SUNY Oswego.


Lauren Bromall, Assistant Snowboard Coach & Snowboard Social Media Director

Lauren has lived in Utah and worked as an instructor at Park City and Brighton resorts. She also lived in Truckee CA, and coached at Woodward Tahoe. Lauren worked her way through the USASA circuit and won the women’s Nationals Open Class Rail Jam event. She has a decorated past as a Rail Jam Competitor in both the East and West Coast. She is AASI certified, and level 100 USASA certified coach. Lauren is also a math teacher at MSA and holds a RYT 200 yoga teacher certification. She has a talent for media work and video editing which our athletes really appreciate.

Josh Kennedy, Snowboard Jumpstart Coach

Josh has been a part of snowboarding for over 28 years and has always maintained a passion for its culture. He has helped riders progress at every level since his involvement. Josh’s earlier years of snowboarding were filled with podium finishes in dozens of regional and national competitions. Josh now enjoys sharing the love of snowboarding with his two sons, Owen and Haven, and the Mount Snow Academy Team. He is a Level 100 certified coach with experience coaching at USASA Nationals. He placed first at the Forum Young Bloods and was invited to attend the Nixon jib fest in Big Bear California in the early 2000’s. There, he rode with some of the most influential snowboarders of all time such as JP Walker and Jeremy Jones. Previous to moving to South Lake Tahoe, Josh also placed first at the Pro Big Air held at Mount Snow, which took place before the development of Carinthia, Killington Big Air, Sunday River Big Air, Crotched Mountain Slope/Big Air, and Nashoba Big Air. He had multiple sponsors through the years. He was a part of the Eastern Boarder team and won first place at the Shop Invitational team jib fest in Rochester NY. He also competed in the US Open and Vans Triple Crown Series. Josh was able to spend multiple winters snowboarding in South Lake Tahoe, riding local mountains and exploring some of Tahoe’s famous backcountry and famous spots such as the Donner Pass road gap.


John Claudio, Assistant Snowboard Coach

Jonathan is a 2019 graduate of Mt. Snow Academy. He has competed in the USSA Rev tour and in the USASA circuit. He also has been invited to Snowboard Magazine’s “The Launch” for the past two years. During his off season Jonathan likes to skateboard and play soccer. He played four years of varsity soccer and also on a premier league. He is currently working toward his coaching certification and taking online college courses.

Connor Kuziak, Alpenglow Intern & Snowboard Coach In-Training

Connor was hired in December of 2019 as the Mount Snow Academy snowboard intern. He graduated in May of 2019 from the University of Hartford with a degree in business management. Connor has been snowboarding for 10 years and was a skier before that. He has spent many winters at Mount Snow and knows the area well. During his free time, he is a huge sports fan and likes to watch football, basketball, soccer, and hockey. At Mount Snow Academy, Connor will be a dorm parent and help with general oversight of the kids. On the mountain, he will assist with taking film, social media posts, and becoming a coach himself.
