Freeski

Freeski at MSA emphasizes free skiing. Our freeskiers compete in both USASA and USSA Eastern Division Events. These are precursors to the USASA Nationals, the USSA Revolution tour, and the Junior Nationals. Our program trains at Mount Snow’s Carinthia Mountain face, the only one of its kind in the East.

We aim to create skiers who tackle the park and the pipe with the wisdom of fierce competitors and the joy of athletes out to have a great time. Mount Snow’s Carinthia is a major draw for Freeskiers and Snowboarders. Carinthia is Vermont’s only all freeride mountain face. Skiers and riders can choose from approximately 125 freeski features scattered around 12 full terrain parks. A tree-skiing area, a superpipe with 18-foot walls, a mini-pipe with 8-foot walls, an all-natural park without manmade material, and a big air site are featured. The parks and pipes manager is a nationally recognized and respected freeski terrain designer. Carinthia was rated by Snowboarding Magazine as one of the top five parks in the East.

Freeski Coaches

Robby Sullivan, Head Freeski Coach

Robby came to the MSA family with a lifetime of competitive experience, and has spent over a decade as a competitive coach. He brings a wealth of knowledge to the freeski program having worked with athletes of all levels from beginner level free skiers, to World Cup level athletes, including professional media based athletes. He strives to produce one of the most competitive free ski programs in the country and looks forward to continuing to follow his passion developing young athletic talent here at Mount Snow Academy.

Tyler Duncan, Freeski Coach

Tyler Duncan joined MSA in 2016 as a free ski coach. Growing up in the White Mountains it’s no surprise Tyler was introduced to skiing at the age of two. He quickly grew an interest in alpine racing and shortly after made the switch to freestyle at 9 years old. Tyler began competing all over the country throughout middle and high school. In 2011, Tyler became a pro skier competing in contests such as the Dew Tour, Gatorade Free flow Tour, and The Northface opens. Alongside competing at a professional level Tyler took interest in the film and photo side of the sport filming with companies such as Meathead Films/Ski The East, STEPT, and many other smaller production companies. Tyler also has a passion for film and photography himself, taking college level photo and film classes thought high school. He is very excited to be on board and spread his knowledge and passion of freestyle skiing.
